The cover and title--“Teenage Biker Mega-Death!”--both have a cheeky charm, but don’t be fooled. I’d call this the darkest story of Giffen and DeMatteis’ run, more so than the funeral episode, Blue Beetle’s mind imploding, or even the Despero stuff. Warning for death, violence, body horror, and a sense of crushing hopelessness I normally associate with election night 2016.

It's been suggested that, if discussing spoilers for recent media events, it might be advisable to consider using the rot13 method to prevent other members seeing spoilers in passing.
The world situation is the world situation. If you're following the news, you know it as much as I do, if you're not, then there are better sources than scans_daily. But please, no doomscrolling, for your own sake.
In deeply unfortunate moves in the UK, both girlguiding and the Women's Institute have announced they will no longer accept trans girls and women as members, both made it clear that they still believe transwomen to be women, and are only doing so is due to concerns regarding possible legal action following the UK Supreme Courts recent ruling that gender, under law, is solely defined by biology at birth.
In more surreal news from the US, and in an inspired bit of trolling, FIFA presented POTUS 47 with an entirely made up "Peace Prize" at the World Cup Draw. The ultimate participation trophy, and a medal he hung aorund his own neck, grinning like a five year old.
An interesting piece from the Sedgewick County Zoo, on the dangers imlpicit in AI animal content videos, and how to spot them.
In the run up to the release of "Wake Up Dead Man: A Knives Out Mystery", a tribute of sorts was shown by, of all things, "Sesame Street" with their guest star Beignet Blanc, starring in "Forks Out".
In fact the only thing which could make this cooler ALSO happens, as we got a reaction video
The UNIT based miniseries, "The War Between the Land and the Sea" debuted with two episodes on Sunday (in the UK at least, those accessing it via Disney+ will have to wait until January 2026) and, believe it or not, it was terrific! Classic RTD firing on all cylinders. We met new kinds of Homo Aqua, Russell Tovey as an everyman stuck into a high stakes situation more or less by accident carries the role brilliantly, and the effects were GORGEOUS! PLEASE let this be as consistently good as these two episodes!

Warning for psychological horror. This isn’t Black Swan or anything, but there’s some scary mind-control stuff, and the penultimate page shown here has an image that stayed with me for a few days. Also some mild misogyny.
The series title shifts from “Justice League International” to “Justice League America” (no “of”) to distinguish its team from Justice League Europe.
The story starts with that American team avoiding the ringing phone like a bunch of Zoomers.

I feel like this needs a good bunch of Bad Batch, which I have not seen, in much the same way that I have only seen Wicked on stage once, and haven't seen the movies.
I also can't listen to the song without tearing up because I've sung it at too many funerals.
Clearly I am highly qualified to care about this vid. I must've gotten someone else's inspiration particle.

In Action Comics #577, 1986, Keith Giffen broke out one of his AP English vocab words and created Caitiff, the first and now-last vampire. The word “caitiff” means “wretched, contemptible person” or occasionally “villain,” and it shares roots with “captive.” But the word wasn’t generally associated with vampires, AFAIK, until the launch of Vampire: the Masquerade in 1991. It’s possible that VtM got the idea from this. Dialogue by Robert Loren Fleming.
Right from the start, Caitiff lived down to his etymology.

Weirdly, I’d actually been the last person to touch Donald Blake after Donny Cates gave him the role of God of Lies – I was writing a crossover between Thor and Venom, and the main plot point Donny requested was that Blake should become the Serpent at the end, so he obviously had some plans for that status quo that were sadly curtailed, so I wasn’t planning to do much with them at first. But then, the closer I got to actually writing the story, the more Blake wove himself back in. -- Al Ewing

Dec. 3rd, 2025 07:50 pmpetraI do not keep up with DC Comics canon anymore. I haven't for a long-ass time. But people on my Tumblr dash do, and they share just enough to confuse me.
I remember when Bruce Wayne adopted Tim Drake because I immediately wrote a story about it in which a) they have sex and b) they have issues. I mean -- so many issues.
The punchline of that story has always been, for me, that Bruce has no goddamn business adopting the 16-year-old son of people he knew.
20 and a bit years on, Tim is 16 again despite the theoretical passage of time in comics, various other characters aging, and assorted other nonsense, and DC Editorial has him ( Cut for spoilers )
There was also a page that went by on my Tumblr dash recently that drew Tim with Shoulders and Muscles, from who knows when, which was also #notmytimdrake, but in a way that made my brain convinced that Bernard was cheating on Tim with Kon.

In the UK, our own Right Wing extremist wannabe cult leader, Nigel Farage countered claims of Anti-Semitism and racist behaviour in his school days by saying that he had "never directly racially abused anybody"... which managed to make the word "directly" do more heavy lifting than an Olympic shot-put team.
However bad your workday was, the odds are that it was better than whoever at the Office for Budget Responsibility pushed the button which accidentally released a detailed response to, the UK Government's Budget report, several hours before the UK Government actually announced it's Budget report.
The Terry Pratchett Estate has announced that in Discworld terms, following 2025 being "The Year of the Luminous Lemur", 2026 will be "The Year of the Curious Squid".
Stranger Things, Season 5 Pt1 dropped. Having forgotten to actually watch most of Season 4, I made do with the recap and don't think I missed too much. I suspect a lot of shippers will be unhappy with some choices being made but, whilst sympathising with them of course, never having been that invested in it myself, I think I actually liked the realisation at the end of the last episode of this part. I've also seen these episodes described as being "A lot of build up, but not much actually happens", which is probably fair but that's what happens when you split a season in two for marketing purposes)
